My junior year of college I watched the entire series of Boy Meets World twice. Most of my friends know I'm obsessed with it. My favorite episode, "Corey's Alternative Friends," is in season one. That's the one where Topanga dances and puts lipstick on her face in the kitchen. (Do I get bonus BFF points for knowing Brianna's favorite episode is "Then There was Shawn" in season five?)
Degrassi: The Next Generation gives me hope that a sequel series can actually be better than the original, but there is also the risk that this will be really bad and crush all of my hopes. My biggest worry is that Disney will try and recreate all the funny parts of the old series without actually trying to create a new plot. Riley Matthews can put lipstick on her face and propose to her boyfriend at graduation, but it doesn't mean anything if the characters are people we hate. Boy Meets World had a lot of plot inconsistencies, but the characters were so real and likable, no one cared. Corey, Shawn and Topanga were real, average, normal kids that I could relate to; therefore, I cared deeply about every single thing that happened to them. Can the Disney Channel recreate that? I liked Lizzie McGuire, Hannah Montana and Zack and Cody, but I didn't care about them as much as the Boy Meets World cast.
I do know that when this show premieres, I'll be watching it, and it's likely I will watch every single episode regardless of the quality. What do you think?
