As you've probably figured out, Brianna and I took sort of a vacation from this blog recently to work at a summer camp. Now that I'm home and busy catching up with my real life, I'm feeling a little bit camp-sick (the opposite of homesick). Obviously the only way to cure this is a little bit of 1990's summer camp pop culture. Summer camp actually wasn't a huge part of my life until college. I went to camp for 3 or 4 day things with my Girl Scout troop, and then when I was older I went for a week, but my parents never shipped me off for an entire summer. I probably would have been scared to death to go. That's why the kids in the Disney Channel reality show "Bug Juice" were my idols. The seasons followed groups of kids (1 cabin of boys and girls) around their various summer camp activities at Camp Waziatayh in Maine. Bug Juice is probably the beginning of my obsession with reality shows. I've since re-watched the entire first season of the show, and what I remember as juicy teen drama is more like a public service announcement on why kids should go to summer camp. In fact, the American Camping Association was mentioned in the credits, so the show probably was created to get kids to ask their parents to sign them up for camp. I wonder how well that worked, since Camp Waziyatah is in Maine and the camp tuition is as much as a year of college tuition. If you've ever worked at a summer camp, I want you to take a look at the fifth name down on that list. Yes, kids. That is a special thanks to Mr. Bob Ditter himself. So, if you didn't happen to spend your summer at camp, I recommend watching a few episodes of Bug Juice to fill the void.

I applied to Camp Waziyatah this past year because I feel as though it must be a magical place, they didn't ever contact me so I guess I wasn't quite qualified for a camp that was once on television haha. But I am glad that Bob Ditter gets a special mention, what would summer camp be without him?
